Poem for Mom
February 28, 2010 § 1 Comment
In Doty’s garden you’ll find there grows
Peace, a beautiful, fragrant rose,
Cannas, begonias, and small baby’s breath,
Heavenly scents that one can’t forget.
Spider lillies next to elephant ears,
The plum trees that fruit year after year.
The figs and grapes swell plump and sweet
After a season of warming heat.
Along the fence the honeysuckle binds,
With the jasmine, trumpet, and hummingbird vines.
Yellow oxalis and jalepenos hot,
Snap dragons, carnations, and sweet 4 0’clocks.
The creeping charlie covers the ground,
While lantana makes a bouquet that’s round.
And every day you’ll find her there,
Gloves on her hands, flowers in her hair,
Digging and pruning and loving so deep,
Weeding and keeping all the beds neat.
